The year has
turned quite suddenly from late summer into Autumn this week.
Those of you with children in school will know that the harvest festival is
on it's way. Whether or not we go along with the religious side of this ritual,
we cannot fail to recognise the importanceof what "harvest" represents.
In business harvest is not dictated by the time of year but it is dictated
by where we are in our own businesses cycle.
Harvest too soon and we take all the money out, leaving our business
unsustainable, leave all the money in and we deprive ourselves of funds or
deprive our business the finance to grow through new projects and
developments.
This is pretty obvious, but how do we know when its a good time for
this?
According to your viewpoint you may want to innovate above all else but
your accountant (from their viewpoint) believes this is far from prudence.
Who gets to choose and what should the criteria be based on?
Apple would be nowhere without constant innovation and development; but
there was a time when they nearly went down the tube...
Alternatively, if your business has not harvested in the money you're going nowhere.
Some people's mouths may be dropping open at the very idea that I'm saying this at all!
How can anyone consider running a business if this basic principle isn't adhered to?
